The GRABIT function retrieves data points from an image file. This function initiates a graphical user interface (GUI) program specifically designed for the extraction of data from an image. It possesses the ability to ingest BMP, JPG, TIF, GIF, and PNG files – any format that can be processed using the IMREAD function. Multiple distinct datasets can be extracted from a single image file, with the resulting data subsequently stored as an n-by-2 matrix variable within the workspace environment. Furthermore, this functionality permits renaming and saving of the extracted data as a MAT file. To effectively utilize this tool, the following procedures should be followed: initially, load the desired image file. Subsequently, calibrate the axes dimensions; you will be presented with a prompt to select four points strategically positioned on the image. Zooming and panning capabilities are enabled to facilitate precise manipulation of the image view. Following this calibration step, points are acquired by clicking on them within the image; right-clicking allows for the deletion of individual points. The image can be zoomed and panned as needed. Moreover, multiple data sets will persist in memory as long as the GUI remains active. Users have the flexibility to rename variables, save them to a file, or modify them through the Array Editor interface. Panning is accomplished by clicking and dragging directly on the image itself. A double-click action restores the centered view; right-clicking and dragging enables zooming in and out of the image. In addition to these methods, keyboard shortcuts provide convenient control over zooming: ‘a’ initiates zooming in, ‘b’ zooms out, and pressing the spacebar resets the view to its original state. This code is also adaptable for extracting data points from images that exhibit a tilt or skew – even when presented upside-down or mirrored orientations – owing to its calibration stage which accounts for imperfect orientation or variations in image quality. The supported file types typically include BMP, JPG, TIF, GIF (up to 8-bit resolution), and PNG formats; essentially any format compatible with IMREAD functionality is accepted for processing by GRABIT(FILENAME).
