简介:
Similar to previous editions, my guiding philosophy in writing this book centers on three key elements. Firstly, I firmly believe that, in the long term, students are most effectively served by mastering fundamental concepts within a broad and accessible environment. Secondly, I maintain that students are best motivated when they observe how core principles directly apply to specific and engaging problems relevant to their own areas of interest. Finally, a crucial aspect of my philosophy is to consistently provide opportunities for learning free from frustration for the student. This book comprehensively covers circuit analysis, digital systems, electronics, and electromechanics at a level suitable for both electrical engineering students taking an introductory course and non-majors enrolled in a survey course. The only truly essential prerequisites include a foundational understanding of physics and single-variable calculus. Utilizing this book to teach a course offers valuable opportunities to cultivate both theoretical and practical skills and experiences across several key domains. These include basic circuit analysis and measurement techniques, first-and second-order transients, steady-state AC circuits, resonance and frequency response characteristics, digital logic circuits, microcontroller systems, computer-based instrumentation – specifically utilizing LabVIEW – diode circuits, electronic amplifiers, field-effect and bipolar junction transistors, operational amplifiers, transformers and DC machines. Furthermore it incorporates computer-aided circuit analysis using MATLAB. While this book places significant emphasis on conveying basic concepts effectively, a notable feature is the inclusion of concise articles strategically placed throughout the text demonstrating how electrical engineering principles find application in diverse fields beyond the discipline itself. These articles explore subjects such as anti-knock signal processing for internal combustion engines, the operation of cardiac pacemakers, active noise control techniques, and the utilization of RFID tags in fisheries research—among other examples. I extend a warm welcome to feedback from users of this book; information regarding potential improvements is particularly valued and will be carefully considered during future revisions.
