The MAX9288 and MAX9290 gigabit multimedia serial link (GMSL) deserializers receive data from a GMSL serializer over 50Ω coaxial or 100Ω shielded twisted-pair (STP) cable, outputting the deserialized data on CSI-2 outputs. The MAX9290 includes HDCP content protection while being otherwise identical to the MAX9288. These deserializers are compatible with any GMSL serializer that supports coaxial output and remain backward-compatible when programmed for STP input.
The audio channel accommodates L-PCM I2S stereo and up to eight channels of L-PCM in time division multiplexing (TDM) mode, supporting sample rates from 32kHz to 192kHz with a maximum bit depth of 32 bits. The embedded control channel operates at speeds ranging from 9.6kbps to 1Mbps in UART-to-UART and UART-to-I2C modes, reaching up to 1Mbps in I2C-to-I2C mode. This allows a microcontroller (μC) to program serializer, deserializer, and peripheral device registers independently of video timing and manage HDCP operation when using the MAX9290.
The devices also include two GPIO ports for functions such as display power-up and backlight switching. A continuously sampled GPI input supports touch-screen controller interrupt requests in display applications.
