This users’ guide introduces WinBUGS software, an interactive Windows adaptation of the BUGS program designed for Bayesian analysis of complex statistical models through Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques. The software offers two approaches to model description: one using a slightly modified version of the BUGS language and another employing Doodles—the graphical representations of models—which can optionally be translated into text-based descriptions. The flexibility of the BUGS language compared to its graphical counterpart is highlighted in this guide.
